Greenberg Glusker’s Candace Carlo Recognized by Los Angeles Business Journal as a Top Entertainment Attorney

Counselor to A-List Actors, Directors and Composers and Dealmaker on Major Motion Pictures Recognized for Career Achievements

Greenberg Glusker today announced that Candace Carlo, Chair of the Firm’s Entertainment Group, has been named one of the "legal stars of the entertainment industry" by the Los Angeles Business Journal in its annual "Who’s Who in L.A. Law" edition.

The LABJ’s special annual report profiles Southern California lawyers who are highly regarded by their peers and who have been involved in recent noteworthy entertainment matters. Ms. Carlo’s past year’s practice highlights include:

  • Represented Academy Award and Golden Globe winning composer Hans Zimmer in deals for Sherlock Holmes, Inception, Modern Warfare 2 (video game), The Pacific, It's Complicated, Despicable Me, Monsters vs. Aliens, Clash of the Titans and upcoming films How Do You Know, Cheaters, Kung Fu Panda 2 and Megamind
  • Negotiated deals concerning new productions, video games and producer services for Friday the 13th films and Last House on the Left films
  • Completed a $20 million music library sale and continued representing a well known Motown music library
  • Provided copyright and chain of title representation to the Estate of J.R.R. Tolkien in connection with The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings
  • Represented various radio personalities, each number one in their national markets, on multi-million dollar deals

Ms. Carlo’s transactional practice draws upon her significant in-house experience at Columbia Pictures and TriStar Pictures and her private practice representation of top-tier talent. Ms. Carlo also has substantial experience in the increasingly important motion picture industries in China and India.

In addition to the clients listed above, Ms. Carlo has represented major talent such as Warren Beatty; Penney Finkelman-Cox, the producer of Shrek, Antz, and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and former head of Sony Animation and DreamWorks Animation; Dori Berinstein, three time Tony award winning Broadway producer; the Estate of Ray Cham, composer of High School Musical and Cheetah Girls; opera great Renee Fleming and world-renowned violinist Joshua Bell. During her studio tenure, Ms. Carlo was responsible for the legal aspects of a number of highly successful motion pictures, including "Jerry Maguire," "Men in Black," "My Best Friend’s Wedding," "Jumanji," "Black Hawk Down" and "Almost Famous."

Ms. Carlo has in-depth knowledge of motion picture financing, having handled more than half a billion dollars in multipicture production financing agreements, along with numerous multimillion dollar co-financing arrangements among major motion picture studios, including Columbia Pictures, TriStar Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Disney, Universal and Twentieth Century Fox.

In addition to substantial experience in the motion picture and music industries, Ms. Carlo represents various music libraries, including libraries of Motown classics, contemporary music, and music for motion picture trailers, television shows and reality programs.
