Firm Meets High Standards For Low GHG Emissions; Sustainability Best Practices

For the second year in a row, the California Climate Action Registry has awarded Greenberg Glusker the prestigious recognition of  “Climate Action Leader.” This designation is considered the gold standard for public reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and acknowledges the Firm’s extensive commitment to addressing climate change and sustainability.

“We continue to participate in the voluntary program to understand what our clients experience in greenhouse gas emission reporting,” said environmental attorney David E. Cranston, who chairs the Firm’s Climate Change & Sustainability Practice Group. “Reporting on the Firm’s GHG emissions to the registry entailed a comprehensive accounting and analysis of Greenberg Glusker’s usage and conservation of resources in electricity, transportation, heating and cooling.”

Understanding the importance of increasing its environmental responsibility, Greenberg Glusker has formed a Green Committee that looks for on-going ways to implement green practices.  Several eco-friendly practices have been initiated and enthusiastically adopted Firm-wide, including recycling programs, paperless workflows, elimination of disposable cups and kitchenware, motion-sensitive lighting and incentive-driven, alternative transportation benefits for employees.

“Everybody has a role to play in reducing emissions, including law firms,” said environmental attorney Sedina L. Banks, a member of the Firm’s Green Committee who spearheaded the California Climate Action Registry initiative. “Our green changes were easy to implement, and helped us to reduce costs and our impact on the environment. We’ve gained great insight by sharing our clients’ challenges in environmental stewardship.”

Greenberg Glusker, one of only a few law firms in the United States Green Building Council, has continued its sustainability agenda with an office redesign that is now in its final phase. Changes include smart-sizing its footprint, increased efficiency in space usage, and the use of recyclable and environmentally friendly materials.

The Firm’s Climate Change & Sustainability Practice Group assists clients from all industries in addressing business and regulatory issues that are impacted by environmental, land use, air quality and energy law. Among others, the Group regularly represents the Dairy Industry Association and The Nature Conservancy.
