Greenberg Glusker announced that the Daily Journal has named Partner Aaron J. Moss among the “Top 75 Intellectual Property Litigators in California” for the second time. In this year’s profile of his copyright and trademark practice, the legal industry publication noted Moss’ work on copyright matters involving television shows, movies, and fictional characters. Moss, who chairs the Firm’s Litigation Group, has recently litigated IP rights disputes for Classic Media, LLC, Toho Co., Ltd., the Estate of J.R.R. Tolkien, and Marvel Entertainment.
Moss also represents actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes in media related legal matters. In April, he settled a defamation lawsuit for Holmes against tabloid publisher American Media, Inc., obtaining a rare public apology for Holmes on the cover of Star magazine, as well as a substantial donation to her chosen charity.
“Aaron continues to build on an impressive record in litigating complex copyright disputes on behalf of our clients, while being a valuable resource within our Firm,” said Greenberg Glusker’s Managing Partner Norman H. Levine. “We congratulate him on this deserved recognition.”
Earlier this year, Moss, 38, was named one of the top 20 lawyers under the age of 40 by the Daily Journal. He co-founded the Firm’s Law Law Land blog, which earned a first place category win, in its maiden year, in the 2010 ABA Journal Blawg 100 competition. Moss was previously named a top IP litigator by the Daily Journal in 2009. This year, the newspaper listed the impact made by an attorney’s work as the most important criterion for making the list.
The paper also noted a seven year old copyright dispute that Moss and Levine have been litigating on behalf of Costco Wholesale Corporation against watch manufacturer Omega, which was recently heard by the United States Supreme Court. The Daily Journal recognized Moss’ work as one of “Godzilla’s” lawyers on behalf of the character’s owner, Toho Co., Ltd, which has pitted him in litigation against book publishers, toy companies, fast food restaurants and wineries.
“I am honored to be named among such a prestigious and accomplished group of attorneys,” said Moss. “I am particularly grateful for my clients’ ongoing confidence in the Firm’s ability to protect and defend their most valuable and enduring assets.”
Moss is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School, and earned his bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from University of California, Los Angeles, where he was also Phi Beta Kappa. Moss, who is a member of the Firm’s Strategic Planning Committee, has been included on the “Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Stars” list of distinguished attorneys since 2004.
