Greenberg Glusker Attorney Receives LEED AP Certification

July 2009

Elizabeth Watson One of Only 50 Attorneys in California to Receive Accreditation

Greenberg Glusker today announced that Elizabeth Watson, Partner in the Firm’s Real Estate and Climate Change and Sustainability practices, achieved the designation of a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP) by the United States Green Building Council.

Watson, whose practice encompasses land use, redevelopment and environmental law, is one of approximately 50 attorneys in California and 500 in all of the United States to have earned a LEED AP accreditation.

The “LEED AP designation sets apart those professionals with the knowledge and skills to successfully administer the LEED certification process,” said David Cranston, who chairs Greenberg Glusker’s Climate Change and Sustainability Group.  With LEED often used by municipalities throughout the nation to implement green building requirements and to reduce the effects of climate change, the credential provides Ms. Watson with a technical understanding possessed by only a very select group of lawyers.

“Elizabeth already advises clients on the changing regulations and requirements related to green building and sustainable development,” continued Cranston.  “Now, in addition to her sound advice, she can assist clients in navigating the intricacies of the LEED certification process.”

Ms. Watson is a member of the United States Green Building Council, and she acts as pro bono counsel to its Los Angeles Chapter. She is also involved in the Los Angeles Business Council and the Urban Land Institute and serves on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Chapter of Lambda Alpha International, a prestigious international professional "honorary land economics society," whose members are chosen solely by invitation.  Ms. Watson has been interviewed by numerous real estate industry publications and speaks frequently on topics relating to the rapidly changing landscape of the land use and climate change, and in particular the tools needed by the business community to respond to those concerns.

Greenberg Glusker’s Climate Change and Sustainability practice is a multi-disciplinary group designed to help clients address evolving regulatory, business and political issues resulting from concerns over greenhouse gas emissions.  The practice includes attorneys with expertise in land use, administrative, environmental and air quality law, real estate, business, tax, and litigation.

In recognition of the Firm’s commitment to sustainability and climate change, Greenberg Glusker has been awarded the prestigious recognition of  “Climate Action Leader” from the California Climate Action Registry.
