Transactional and Litigation Attorney Catches Old Hollywood’s Attention with Poise, Intelligence and Creative Use of New Media
Hollywood’sperpetual wonderment over what’s next was answered today in the area of entertainment law: it’s Greenberg Glusker attorney Ken Basin, who was profiled in Variety’s feature “Up Next: The Next Generation.”
In just three years of law practice, Basin, 26, has amassed an impressive array of transactional and litigation experience, negotiating or assisting in the negotiation of numerous agreements for the firm’s roster of A-list talent, serving as lead production counsel for MGM/United Artists’ Red Dawn; negotiating writing, directing and rights acquisition agreements on behalf of international media conglomerate CJ Entertainment America; serving as part of a small team of counsel to Marvel Entertainment in various arbitration matters; and working on a small team that obtained a settlement, including a cover apology, for Katie Holmes in a defamation lawsuit against Star magazine.
Observers note that Basin brings to the table poise, perspective, analysis and negotiation skills that far exceed his years of experience.
“Watching Ken develop as an attorney has been energizing, and he’s shown us all a few new tricks while cementing himself as a valuable member of both our Entertainment and Litigation Groups,” said Greenberg Glusker Managing Partner Stephen Smith. “We congratulate him on this early-career recognition.”
In addition to his active entertainment law practice, Basin also co-founded Greenberg Glusker’s award-winning Law Law Land blog. He is the blog’s Editor-In-Chief, and personally edits every article while managing the blog’s daily operations.
A graduate of Harvard Law School and the University of Southern California, Ken was entrusted as a second year associate with negotiating numerous talent contracts on a variety of projects, serving as lead litigation counsel in a contract dispute in California Superior Court, and directly liaising with clients, from major corporations to A-list Hollywood celebrities. The general counsel of one client, a multi-billion dollar entertainment company, called him “the best law firm associate we have ever worked with.”
Basin is building a hybrid practice that mixes entertainment transactions and litigation, in the style of “old Hollywood” and Greenberg Glusker’s resident legal legend, Bert Fields. “I am grateful for the opportunities that Greenberg Glusker creates, and I am humbled by, and appreciative of, the attention of the press and the support of my colleagues,” said Basin.
