Candace Carlo chairs Greenberg Glusker's Entertainment Group.  Recently recognized by the Daily Journal as one of California's "Top 75 Women Transactional Attorneys" and by the Los Angeles Business Journal as a "Who's Who in Entertainment Law," Ms. Carlo is an entertainment transactional attorney with a unique combination of significant in-house experience at major motion picture studios, along with wide-ranging representation of talent at the highest level in the private sector.

While at Columbia Pictures and TriStar Pictures, Ms. Carlo negotiated contracts for some of the most successful motion pictures in history, such as “Jerry Maguire,” “Men In Black,” “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” and “Jumanji.” She has also used her unique expertise and insight to represent major motion picture talent in films such as “Pirates of the Caribbean" series, “Batman” series, "Megamind," and "Inception." 

In addition to her extensive experience in all aspects of motion picture production, Ms. Carlo has in-depth knowledge of motion picture financing, having handled over $500 million in multi-picture production financing agreements, along with numerous multi-million dollar co-financing arrangements among major motion picture studios, including Columbia Pictures, TriStar Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Disney, Universal and Twentieth Century Fox.

Ms. Carlo also has substantial experience in the increasingly important motion picture industries in China and India.
 

Entertainment Experience

  • Extensive experience in rights acquisitions including book rights, screenplay rights, and life story rights for major motion pictures including “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “Seven Years In Tibet,” “Jumanji,” “Jerry Maguire,” and the Johnny Cash film “I Walk the Line”
  • Major actor, director, producer and other deals for numerous motion pictures, including the blockbuster hits “Pirates of the Caribbean: World’s End,” “The Simpsons Movie,” “Batman Begins,” “As Good As It Gets” and “Men In Black”
  • Resolved copyright, defamation, privacy and right of publicity issues on major studio productions “Donnie Brasco,” “Blackhawk Down,” “Peter Pan” as well as other productions
  • Structured multi-picture financing packages and negative pickup arrangements for many awarding winning pictures such as “Almost Famous” and “Erin Brockovich” as well as “Peter Pan,” “Rollerball” and others
  • Represents the Academy Award winning composer of the music for “Pirates of the Caribbean: Black Pearl,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” “The Simpsons,” “Batman Begins” and many other films; as well as other composers; also represents some of the highest level classical music performers
  • Represents various music libraries, including libraries of Motown classics, contemporary music, and music for motion picture trailers and television shows
  • Handled one of the largest deals in video game history for major video game manufacturer
  • Provided production legal services for Columbia Pictures local language films in China, including the award winning “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” “Not One Less” and “The Road Home”
  • Handled formation of record label, soundtrack albums and other albums for a wide variety of artists
