Profile

Norman Levine is a member of Greenberg Glusker's Litigation Department.  He has served on the Firm’s Management Committee since 1991, and was Firm's Managing Partner from 1998 until 2011.

Mr. Levine handles complex commercial disputes in federal and state courts and before arbitration panels. 

He has represented clients in a variety of industries. He has represented parties in shareholder and partnership disputes and in disputes between management and investors. Mr. Levine has represented parties engaged in virtually every aspect of the real estate industry, handling disputes between joint owners of property, buyers and sellers, landlords and tenants, adjacent landowners, borrowers and lenders, clients and brokers, and developers and investors.  He has also litigated significant intellectual property issues of first impression, resulting in favorable appellate decisions. Mr. Levine has also defended employers in wrongful termination and discrimination matters.

Litigation Experience

  • Represented Costco Wholesale Corporation in 2010 in a matter involving interpretation of the Copyright Act that reached the United States Supreme Court, Costco v. Omega, resulting in a 4-4 decision
  • Represented an investor in an action under a tax-protection agreement arising out of one of the largest leveraged buyouts in U.S. history
  • Represents management in actions by investors in a pooled investment in European mortgages
  • Defeated class certification in mislabeling matter that reached California Supreme Court
  • Has handled securities arbitrations on behalf of investors
  • Represents tenant in common in partition action involving one of the largest undeveloped parcels of real property in Santa Clara County
  • Represents significant property owner in inverse condemnation action against Department of Transportation
  • Achieved significant appellate decision protecting trade secrets
  • Handled many partnership and corporation dissolution and governance actions and disputes
