Greenberg Glusker Mourns the Passing of Founding Partner Arthur N. Greenberg

Portrait of Arthur N. Greenberg

It is with deep sadness that Greenberg Glusker announces the passing of its founding partner, Arthur N. Greenberg, at the age of 98, on April 27, 2026.

Mr. Greenberg co-founded the firm in 1959, starting with just three lawyers. For over six decades, he helped build what became one of Southern California's most respected law practices, known for complex litigation, sophisticated transactions, and an unwavering commitment to client service.

A member of the first graduating class of UCLA School of Law and a member of the Order of the Coif, Mr. Greenberg built a career defined by landmark matters across more than six decades. It was a remarkable arc for a young man who grew up with a stutter and channeled it into a passion for debate, advocacy, and ultimately the courtroom. From sophisticated corporate transactions to complex litigation, trust and estate matters, and high-stakes real estate transactions, his work shaped Southern California's legal and commercial landscape. He was recognized by Best Lawyers, named UCLA Law School's Alumnus of the Year, and rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell.

Beyond the law, Mr. Greenberg was a pillar of the Los Angeles community. He served as President of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, as a national vice president of the American Jewish Committee, receiving its Learned Hand Award for his work promoting human rights, and as President of Leo Baeck Temple. He was a founder of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Skirball Cultural Center, and established Daniel's Place, a Santa Monica center serving young adults experiencing their first episodes of mental illness and their families. He received the ADL's Justice and Jurisprudence Award in 2008, the LA Jewish Federation's Maimonides Torch of Justice Award, and was named UCLA Law School's Dean's Circle Donor of the Year in 2016.

Though Mr. Greenberg had been retired for many years, he remained a cherished presence at the firm. Greenberg Glusker maintained an office for him, which he visited regularly, meeting with attorneys and staff and working on his memoir. He once said, "Being at the firm gives me pride and purpose. To have taken a small shop of three people and grown it to more than 100, I'm enormously proud to have played a role in that success."

"Arthur's vision for this firm was that our firm would be known for achieving our clients' goals in an honorable fashion, with the highest skill, intelligence and integrity, and that vision has guided everything we do," said Bob Baradaran, Managing Partner of Greenberg Glusker. "That vision did not leave with him. It is part of the fabric of our firm."

"Arthur built something rare, a firm with a conscience. We are proud to be led by his values and the legacy he leaves behind, and we always will be," said Norman Levine, former Managing Partner.

Mr. Greenberg is survived by his wife Claire, two sons, Jonathan and Rob, and four grandchildren, Kenji, Tomo, Ted, and Sam. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 1, at 10:00 a.m. at Hillside Memorial Park, 6001 West Centinela Avenue, Los Angeles, California 90045, followed by a reception at The Greenberg home, at 12:30 p.m.
