Greenberg Glusker Private Client Services Co-Chair Stefanie Lipson is slated to co-present “Get, Set, Think! GST Trusts and the 'Deemed' Allocation of GST Exemption to Lifetime Indirect Skip Transfers” on Wednesday, November 18, during the Hawaii Tax Institute conference.

Session Details

Unlike direct skips, the transfer tax consequences of lifetime indirect skips may not arise until years, or even generations, after the original transfer. Issues surrounding GST exemption allocations, elections, and reporting can therefore remain undetected long after a gift tax return is filed (if one was filed at all!), resulting in unintended allocations, wasted exemption, blended inclusion ratios, and other reporting problems.

Get, Set, Think! skips the basics and jumps into IRC Section 2632(c) through a fast-paced, interactive trivia format. Using practical examples, reporting scenarios, and audience participation, we’ll explore the “deemed” allocation of GST exemption to lifetime indirect skips, including the identification of GST Trusts, statutory exceptions, elections in and out of deemed allocation, ETIPs, and related Form 709 reporting. We’ll set the facts. You make the call. Get, Set, Think!
