Moving for Money, Moving for Love: How to Help Your Clients Navigate the Tax and Succession Bumps in the Road | Hawaii Tax Institute
Greenberg Glusker Private Client Services Co-Chair, Laura Zwicker, is slated to speak on the panel “Moving for Money, Moving for Love: How to Help Your Clients Navigate the Tax and Succession Bumps in the Road” at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17, during the Hawaii Tax Institute conference.
Session Details
As clients jump into their plane with a dog, some wine, and their Rolex collection in tow running from the California Wealth Tax or toward the dream of a no tax jurisdiction, there are, inevitably, just a few issues that the client has not thought of, or thought to consult you on, before ATC has cleared the flight for takeoff. This session will guide wealth transfer advisors through the some of the most important tax and non-tax bumps that clients are likely to be surprised by and provide both technical and practical ways to help clients navigate arounds those bumps. Learn about exit taxes, common mismatches in tax treatment of structures, tax residency surprises, succession issues (spoiler alert, freedom of testation may not be available in your client’s destination), adoption recognition, and what happens to marital property rights when marital bliss doesn’t survive the move.
