Renovating the Blind Children's Center for Safe and Inclusive Learning
The Blind Children’s Center (BCC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in East Hollywood that prepares infants, toddlers, and preschoolers to thrive through inclusive, family-focused early childhood education, with a specialized focus on children who are blind or visually impaired.
“Robin Finch and I had the privilege of drafting, negotiating, and advising on an owner-contractor construction contract for a critical multi-phase renovation of the BCC’s facilities,” commented Nancy Zhao, Counsel in the firm's Real Estate Group.
The project moved at a fast and intense pace due to pressing deadlines to complete as many renovations as possible while the children were out of school for the summer.
The renovations included upgrades to classrooms, the main office, two exterior playgrounds, meeting spaces, a garage storage utility room, and a pool pump room. Additionally, the project addressed essential remediation of lead-based paint and asbestos in the main building, installation of a new roof, reconfiguration of the administrative office, and resurfacing of parking areas.
“It was incredibly rewarding to contribute to such an impactful project, ensuring the BCC was well-protected with a strong contract and helping them meet their tight timelines,” added Robin Finch, Partner in the firm's Real Estate Group.
These renovations will provide an improved and safer learning environment for the children and families the BCC serves.
