Laura A. Zwicker and Stefanie J. Lipson

Laura Zwicker and Stefanie Lipson, Co-Chairs of Greenberg Glusker's Private Client Services Group, will present the webinar "Choose Your Own Adventure: Cross-Border Transfer Tax and Trust Planning" for the California Lawyers Association Taxation Section's Women in Tax Committee on August 19, 2025, from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

This presentation is an interactive choose your own adventure style fact pattern using a storyline that develops throughout the presentation which explores a variety of cross border inbound and outbound planning issues. We will address questions that all planners, including, and perhaps especially, those who think of themselves as domestic planners, need to ask their clients as well as some of the gift tax, estate tax, and trust income tax issues we see most frequently with clients who have cross border families or assets. Among the issues that we will address are:

  1. U.S. person living and working outside the U.S and purchasing real estate outside the U.S.
  2. U.S. person in a relationship with a non U.S. person.
  3. Non U.S. person with foreign trusts becoming a U.S. person so the trust has U.S. beneficiaries.
  4. Non U.S. person who will remain non U.S. person acquiring U.S. real property.
  5. U.S. person looking to leave the U.S. after establishing property ownership and irrevocable trust structures.
