What Happens to Hayden Panettiere’s Estate? Experts Explain Who Could Inherit Her Heroes and Nashville Residuals

People Magazine

Portrait of Marc M. Stern

Private Client Services Partner Marc M. Stern was quoted in People Magazine, where he discussed how California law may govern the inheritance received by Hayden Panettiere’s minor daughter, including the use of trusts and guardianships to protect and manage assets inherited by a minor.

Excerpts:

A trust could also keep more of Panettiere’s financial details private. “The issue with a California guardianship of the estate is that it’s a public proceeding,” Stern says. “And so people will know what the assets are and where they go.”

“Certainly, the California estate can’t go to a minor, and it’s going to have to go to some sort of protective vehicle for the daughter until she reaches the age of 18,” says Stern.

Stern, a partner at Greenberg Glusker, says her assets could include “accounts, checking accounts, cash accounts, brokerage accounts, real property, residuals, royalties.” Those assets could include potential residuals from Heroes, Nashville and the Scream franchise, as well as memoir-related royalties.
