Probate, Trusts & Estates Litigation Chair, Benny Roshan, provided legal insight to Sharon Waxman and Daniel Goldblatt, hosts of TheWrap-Up podcast, regarding Britney Spears' hearing on July 15, 2021. The hearing was set to resolve the issue of Britney being given the choice to hire her own counsel in her quest to end her conservatorship.

Excerpts:

"I think what really brought a lot of attention to this was Britney's statement in court at the hearing on June 23. The significance of that was two-fold: One was the content of what she said, but the more significant aspect of that for the court is how lucid and eloquent Britney was."

"In probate court, conservatees and anybody that is under any kind of proceeding, the court allows for them to give testimony. What ended up happening was that the testimony was relied upon by the court, and so at the follow-up hearing, the court listened to Britney herself and granted her request to hire a counsel of her choosing."

"Allowing somebody to choose their counsel is indirectly saying this person's capacity has been restored because hiring an attorney means you have to have the capacity to enter into a contract."
