Brian Davidoff Interviewed by American Board of Certification
August 19, 2024 – Media MentionBrian Davidoff, chair of the Bankruptcy, Reorganization & Capital Recovery Group, was recently elected President-Elect of the American Board of Certification (the organization that provides a national certification for specialization as a Business Bankruptcy attorney), and interviewed by fellow board member attorney Salene Kraemer.
Excerpts:
Describe your involvement with the American Board of Certification. How have you been involved?
I'm currently the president-elect, but I've been a certified business bankruptcy specialist for probably 20-plus years. I guess I'm considered a senior within the ABC parlance, but I still maintain an active license, and a designation by the ABC. Other than my annual certification by the ABC, I wasn't actively involved until about six or seven years ago, when I decided to become more actively involved, and since then have participated on several boards, and now rising up the leadership ranks.
Can you describe for me one of your ideal clients?
So, there's one case that I handled years ago, but it remains to me one of my most enjoyable cases. This was a family business here in Southern California, and they manufactured furniture. They had about 12 or 15 locations throughout the Southern California area. They ran into financial difficulty, and we ultimately took them through a Chapter 11, and were able to restructure the debt. And look, the financial restructuring is great. Obviously, that's what we need to do as part of our work as bankruptcy lawyers. But what was to me most tangible was the effect it had on this family and their long-time employees. I really got to see how the work that we do in restructuring a business can really affect people's lives and in this way for the better.
