Litigation Partner Doug Mirell Consults with SAG-AFTRA on AI Issues
August 1, 2024Litigation Partner and First Amendment expert Doug Mirell has consulted with SAG-AFTRA on “deepfake” and other artificial intelligence issues affecting the entertainment community.
Most recently, Doug strategized with SAG-AFTRA about the conversations it was having with various stakeholders beginning in October 2023 that led to the introduction of the bipartisan federal NO FAKES Act on July 31, 2024 – legislation designed to protect the voice and visual likeness of all individuals from unauthorized AI-generated recreations.
The bill has broad support from industry stakeholders, including SAG-AFTRA, the Recording Industry Association of America, and major tech and media companies. The legislation emphasizes the balance between fostering AI innovation and protecting individual rights.
