Managing Partner, Bob Baradaran, shared his insights with Law.com' in the article "'Striking Range'? How Midsize Firms Fit Into Big Law's Associate Bidding War." Amid the bidding war, Baradaran looks to remain within "striking distance" of Big Law salaries, while also giving associates the benefit of maintaining work-life balance.

“As long as we’re in striking range, our structure, hour requirements, training and all the other stuff that I would group in as our firm culture have been what draws very talented people to our firm,” Baradaran said.

He said Milbank’s decision to raise salaries this year—and Davis, Polk & Wardwell’s announcement that it upped the ante slightly—means Greenberg will need to review its own compensation. Greenberg currently pays first years “between $170,000 and $175,000,” Baradaran says.
