Companies In Limbo Over Calif. Climate Disclosure Laws' Fate
Law360
Sedina Banks, Environmental Partner, was quoted in Law360 discussing how climate disclosure laws may impact companies by requiring them to collect Scope 3 emissions data from suppliers and other third parties.
Excerpts:
Sedina Banks, an environmental partner at Greenberg Glusker LLP, said that in order to satisfy the laws' reporting requirements, especially as it relates to Scope 3 emissions, companies will have to rely on other, out-of-state companies to provide them with the necessary information.
"I think that you can have almost a trickle-down effect, where other companies are also going to be impacted, even though they're not doing the reporting themselves," Banks said.
"Companies are in a difficult position because they don't have certainty," Banks of Greenberg Glusker said. "Are these laws going to be effective, or will the court ultimately strike down the laws?"
