Greenberg Glusker Advises Warner Music Group in Acquisition of Sureel AI
Greenberg Glusker LLP represented Warner Music Group ("WMG") in its acquisition of Sureel AI, a leading attribution technology company whose platform tracks how AI models use artists' work in training and content generation.
Sureel's multi-patented technology creates an "AI DNA" fingerprint for every work, decomposing it into component parts and tracing how AI models incorporate those elements. The company's platform delivers IP provenance, audit and compliance reporting, model optimization, AI business intelligence, and a growing NIL (name, image, and likeness) attribution suite covering voice clones, AI-generated avatars, and style replication. Sureel's registry holds millions of music assets, with architecture designed to extend its multi-layer attribution capabilities into video and image at scale.
The transaction advances WMG's strategy to ensure that artists, songwriters, and rightsholders benefit wherever and whenever their work is referenced in AI-generated content or used in the training of AI models. Sureel will continue to operate as a standalone platform serving the broader music and AI ecosystem.
"WMG has been ahead of the curve in how it thinks about AI and what it means for artists and rightsholders. This acquisition backs that commitment with action. We were proud to advise them on a deal that will matter to the creative community for a long time," said Eric Perlmutter-Gumbiner, Partner at Greenberg Glusker LLP.
The Greenberg Glusker deal team was led by partner Eric Perlmutter-Gumbiner, with support from Daniel Cousineau (Tax), Todd Noelle (Corporate), Emilee Wu (Corporate), and Peter Jackson (IP & Technology).
