- Served as lead counsel on the $2 billion sale of the Los Angeles Clippers professional basketball franchise to Steve Ballmer
- Represented Lou Wolff in connection with the sale of the controlling interest of the Oakland A’s to John Fisher and family
- Represented Jomboy Media in its partnership with Major League Baseball (MLB), which includes an equity investment by MLB
- Represented LongHaul Management, a digital media agency with a number of sports-related content creator clients in its sale to Wasserman
- Represented Harlan Sports Management in connection with its sale to Excel Sports Management
- Represented The Sports Club/LA in a series of credit facilities, totaling approximately $80 million, in connection with the refinancing of its health clubs in Southern California and eventually in its sale to Equinox
- Represented Barstool Sports in connection with multiple financing rounds, its sale to Penn National Gaming and it’s repurchase from Penn
- Represented Brand Brady, Tom Brady’s athleisure brand in connection with financing work, outside general counsel work and its eventual merger with NoBull
- Represented a family office in connection with its investment in a professional sports franchise
- Represented All American Heavyweights/King Sports Worldwide in connection with multimillion-dollar offering to pursue boxing promotion business and related corporate, employment and real estate activities
- Represented sports clubs in raising capital and counsel an online athletic recruiting platform on capital raising
Creator Ventures
- Provide outside general counsel services to Barstool Sports, including creating and negotiating talent and content distribution agreements for its podcast and video content, negotiating major advertising and sponsorship deals, assisting with its backend tech agreements, terms of use and privacy policy, drafting and negotiating its IP licensing deals, overseeing its trademark portfolio, and providing strategy with respect to its IP disputes
- Provide outside general counsel services to Jomboy Media, a leading producer of sports podcasts and video content, including its series seed financing led by Connect Ventures, negotiating talent and content distribution agreements for its podcast and video content, negotiating advertising and sponsorship deals, and overseeing its trademark portfolio
- Represent Togethxr, a content and commerce company founded by four of the world's greatest female athletes: Alex Morgan, Chloe Kim, Simone Manuel, and Sue Bird, to expand operations including to negotiate agreements for other elite athletes to join the company as well as its deals with WNBA teams, TJMaxx and Nike.
- Represented OnDeck Digital, a media company owned by former professional baseball pitcher
- Represented Fuze Technology, Inc., a leading mobile charging and SaaS company in connection with multiple partnership and sponsorships with professional sports franchises
- Represented Laird Apparel, the apparel brand of Laird Hamilton and Gabrielle Reece
- Represents the new brand Off Season, a clothing brand designed by Kristin Juszczyk and incorporating sports IP licensed from various leagues and teams
- Negotiated the BRAND BRADY deal on behalf of Good American that involved a license of Tom Brady’s brand and NIL
- Represented OPI Products in connection with its sports-related lines of products and endorsements, including professional athletes Serena Williams and Danica Patrick
Franchise/Stadium Development
- Represented the Oakland Athletics professional baseball franchise in the acquisition and development of approximately 140 acres of land for a new baseball stadium and entertainment and residential project to be located in Fremont, California
- Represented the Los Angeles Kings professional hockey franchise in various business matters
- Represented Chicago Fire professional soccer franchise in connection with the design and construction of its VIP club
- Advise San Jose Earthquakes professional soccer franchise in the construction of their $90 million stadium
- Served as special counsel to the Los Angeles Coliseum Commission as to CEQA and related regulatory matters in its negotiations with the National Football League
Athlete Representation
- Represent Olympic gold medalist and World Champion boxer Oscar De La Hoya, as well as his boxing company Golden Boy Promotions, in a variety of matters, including business acquisitions, strategic alliances, grants of equity interests to boxers and key executives, content licensing, endorsement and boxing promotional agreements
- Represented Wayne Gretzky in connection with a consumer goods joint venture, including negotiation of joint venture agreements, secured financing agreements and license/endorsement agreements, and in connection with the Phoenix Coyotes professional hockey franchise Chapter 11 bankruptcy case
- Represented professional baseball player Alex Rodriguez in various business matters
- Represented Major League Baseball player Pete Rose in various business matters
- Represented professional tennis stars Pete Sampras and Lindsay Davenport in various business dealings
- Represent numerous professional athletes in connection with estate plans, premarital agreements and wealth transfer planning
- Represent players in connection with tax advice regarding foreign real estate investments
- Represented an Olympic gold medal figure skater in connection with his involvement in the production and staging of a professional figure skating touring company
- Served as real estate counsel to Antonio Esfandari, one of the world’s top poker players
Litigation
- Obtained summary judgment on behalf of clients Barstool Sports, Inc., Dave Portnoy and other Barstool personalities in high-profile defamation and fraud lawsuit in the Southern District of New York brought by actor Michael Rapaport arising out of a failed business relationship between the parties and related public comments and social media posts. Obtained unanimous Second Circuit Court of Appeal decision affirming dismissal of defamation claims against clients
