Jury awards $45.2 million in punitive damages in Alex Jones Sandy Hook trial

Doug Mirell, a defamation litigation expert, shared his thoughts regarding the unanimous $45.2 million punitive damage jury verdict against Alex Jones and his company in the Texas defamation lawsuit brought by the parents of a 6-year-old victim of the December 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.  The jury’s punitive damage judgment substantially exceeded its prior 10-2 verdict awarding $4.1 million in compensatory damages.
