Greenberg Glusker partner, Doug Mirell, provides insights on a recent ordinance issued by the City of Beverly Hills as it relates to the First Amendment in the article, "'Occupy' Protest Wakes Residents: City Restricts Public Gatherings After Late Night Protesters Enter Residential Street Friday," published by Beverly Hills Weekly in the June 18, 2020, issue.


First Amendment attorney Doug Mirell said an ordinance cannot inhibit more assembly rights than are absolutely necessary to serve that governmental purpose, which the City’s latest ordinance does.

“I think the City has gone overboard and reacted inappropriately to a single instance where one group of folks were protesting for a few hours late at night,” Mirell said.
